The James R. Weir Memorial Scholarship is being offered to a resident of Tiverton or Little Compton who is a graduating high school senior. The Scholarship is being offered by the Tiverton Four Corners Merchants Association, a non-profit organization comprised of the business owners within the Tiverton Four Corners Historic Village. Our mission includes enhancing the community through sponsored family activities, to promote visual and performing arts and to explore and encourage greater participation in the arts throughout the community. The Association will award a scholarship to a high school graduating senior who wishes to further his or her education in either the Arts, Business or Preservation fields.
About James (Jim) Weir. James R. Weir, was an architect and preservationist, who passed away on November 16, 2013 He and his wife Rosalind have spent over 30 years restoring and renovating the 300-year-old village of Tiverton Four Corners, transforming it into a vibrant shopping area and community of the arts - an antithesis of the modern day strip mall. Jim and Roz also founded The Four Corners Arts Center which provides a venue for concerts, film, theatrical performances, exhibits, and arts education.
The project at The Village of Four Corners embodies the ideals Jim Weir so fervently supported: that the sustainability of a community, both physically and philosophically, is enhanced by the alliance between arts, business, and preservation. This is accomplished through the hard work of committed individuals.
